Alien Sam in Serious Sam: Shatterverse
Enots Mas: the first friendly Aludran Reptiloid, four arms, Quad Wield, frontline DPS.
Playstyle
Alien Sam is the Shatterverse frontliner. His name is Enots Mas, which is Sam Stone spelled backwards, and the joke is sitting on a serious body plan: a heroic Aludran Reptiloid with four arms. This is the first friendly Reptiloid in the series. Every previous lizard in a Serious Sam game worked for Mental. This one signed up for the Serious Program and then asked for two extra guns.
You play him in the densest part of the arena. The kit is frontline DPS, not a stealth class and not a decoy class. When a wave peaks, you are the Sam the horde should be afraid of, not the Sam looping the rim. That means you take the center, you spend Quad Wield when the cluster is actually worth four barrels, and you accept that you will eat more melee executes than Cartoon Sam does because you stood where the loot and the teeth both spawn.
He is a common second or third unlock after the starter. Catalyst Orbs buy him in the same two-to-four-hour window as the rest of the roster. If your first hours on Retro Sam felt like you were creating space you could not fill with damage, Alien Sam is the purchase. If your hours felt like you were already drowning in the middle, buy Cartoon Sam first and come back.
Starter trio still works on him. Desert Eagle, shotgun, and Thompson are enough to learn the four-arm cadence. The moment the shop offers minigun, laser, or anything that enjoys being fired in bulk, Alien Sam starts paying rent the other Sams cannot. Read the weapon tier list before you dump orbs into a late pistol he will never respect.
Ultimate: Quad Wield
Quad Wield is the named ultimate. Four arms, four guns, one button. Interviews and coverage treat it as the exaggerated guns-akimbo joke the series always wanted. Use it at the peak of a wave or during a lieutenant phase where adds spawn in a pile, not as a walk-out-of-spawn flex. Playtest notes said ultimates were rebalanced toward each other, so do not expect Quad Wield to delete a boss unattended. Expect it to multiply whatever you are already firing.
Because the extra arms are the fantasy, gun choice during the window matters more than it does on Retro Sam. A Quad Wielded minigun or laser will look like the trailer. A Quad Wielded weak pistol will look like the player complaint that late pistols feel obsolete. Swap before you press the button. Heat and overheat on energy guns still apply; four barrels that overheat together are four barrels you are babysitting, not four free wins.
Analog Stick’s broader critique still lands: specials sit on the same three upgrade levers, and after many runs the kit feels simple. You will not unlock a fifth arm. You will shorten cooldown, extend duration, or add a modest rider. Take the riders that keep you in the fight. One of Broken Sam’s paths heals only himself on ultimate; Alien Sam’s published hook is damage, not a self-heal. Do not play him like a sustain tank unless a modifier you actually found says so.
Modifiers
Public modifiers for Alien Sam start with the body: four arms, Reptiloid, Quad Wield. Behaviour’s July 2026 notes established that every Sam has a unique modifier set that further shapes a run. They used Cartoon Sam as the detailed example and left Alien Sam’s extra numbers in the game instead of the patch notes. That means you should treat Quad Wield plus the four-arm mesh as the known kit, then experiment with Intel, trinkets, and shop guns to see what actually scales on him.
Trinkets can be Sam-specific. If a desk item mentions extra weapons, fire rate during the ultimate, or anything that only makes sense with four hands, it belongs here. If a disc is all dash recharge, it belongs on Cartoon Sam. If it is all decoy fuse, it belongs on Retro Sam. The builds guide is where those pairings should live once you have proof from a clear, not from a loading-screen rumor.
Do not confuse Alien Sam with Inverse Sam. Inverse Sam is a lieutenant, an evil timeline that fell to Mental. Enots Mas is playable and on your side. Shooting the wrong lizard in a story beat is a lore mistake, not a build.
Who should pick Alien Sam
Pick Alien Sam if you want to stand in the worst part of the room and win the math. He is the right call for:
- Players who already aim well and want the damage stat to matter.
- Squads that have a dasher and a decoy and still lose to packed elites.
- Solo players who prefer a frontline kit over a movement exam.
- Anyone who came to Shatterverse for the first heroic Reptiloid and actually wants to use the arms.
Skip him if you hate holding a door, if your five-stack already has two damage dealers and nobody peeling, or if you only enjoy dash-cancel movement. In those lobbies, Cartoon Sam or Broken Sam will feel better. Rankings with caveats live on the Sam tier list. Launch week puts Alien Sam high for raw damage. That is not a promise he is easy.
He is also a bad fit for the player who dumps Quad Wield the instant it lights up, then stands in a lieutenant slam with no dash and no decoy. The ultimate is a window. Miss the window and you are a large Reptiloid in the middle of the screen.
Co-op role
Co-op is 1–5 players, cross-play, peer-to-peer. Solo works. Alien Sam’s job in a stack is the center. You take the densest cluster so Cartoon Sam can loop the rim and Retro Sam can decoy the flank. When you Quad Wield, say so. Teammates should not plant Orphan Sam buzzsaws on the exact tile you are about to occupy, and they should not waste decoys on the pack you are already deleting.
You will draw aggro because you are standing in it. That is the role. Melee executes are your health plan more often than they are Cartoon Sam’s. Leave a wounded fodder enemy if a teammate is one hit from down; Analog Stick noted that keeping enemies barely alive is how groups feed heals. A Quad Wield that vaporizes every execute target is a Quad Wield that starved the squad.
Host etiquette, instanced loot, and revive order sit on the co-op guide. Bring Alien Sam when the lobby needs a player who will not drift to the edge of the map to snipe.
Weaknesses
Frontline DPS eats frontline mistakes. Wide arenas with sniper Harpies punish a Sam who only knows how to stand in a cluster. Overheat on energy weapons punishes a Quad Wield that started on a hot laser. The kit is less flashy than the trailer when the shop hands you pistols; players already complain those late pistols feel obsolete, and four of them do not fix the complaint.
Analog Stick wanted a character creator. You will not get one. Enots Mas is the Reptiloid you have. After many runs the three upgrade levers on the ultimate will feel familiar. That is the ceiling. If you need a new toy every night, rotate to Broken Sam and his hold-the-line modifiers instead of demanding a sixth arm.
Alien Sam is the Serious Program’s proof that a Reptiloid can fight for the right side and still be greedy about gun count. Stand in the pile, spend Quad Wield on purpose, and let the dasher have the rim. When the damage chart in your head disagrees with a real lieutenant, check the Sam tier list and the builds guide before you bench the first friendly lizard in the series.
Frequently Asked Questions
