Serious Sam: Shatterverse Updates Hub
Launch week, playtest leftovers, and what to watch in patches.
Launch week in one place
Serious Sam: Shatterverse shipped on August 31, 2026. Behaviour Interactive developed it, Devolver Digital published it, and the first storefront week is a 10% discount on the $19.99 premium price that ends September 7, 2026. There are no microtransactions. Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and the Microsoft Store (Xbox Play Anywhere) all went live together, with day-one cross-play over peer-to-peer.
This hub is the patch desk. The first detailed write-up is the launch notes page: platforms, price, the playtest changelog that actually made it into 1.0, and the Steam complaints worth tracking in hotfixes. Come back here when a numbered patch lands. Until then, treat launch notes as the live changelog.
Steam’s first-week score sat Mixed, roughly 47% positive from about 301 reviews. That is a reception fact, not a patch. If you need a hands-on verdict instead of a percentage, read the review. If you need to know whether your GPU even belongs in the argument, use the system requirements.
What the 2026 playtests already changed
Behaviour ran multiple playtests through 2026, including an open weekend after the August 7 release-date announcement. The July 31 development update is the last public changelog before launch, and the launch notes walk each line. The short version:
- Each Sam received unique modifiers. Cartoon Sam is the published example: slower move speed, faster dash recharge, bigger explosions.
- Intel discs were buffed across the board after testers said they did not hit hard enough.
- The M1A2 Thompson gained range. Random base-stat generation on weapons was removed so two guns of the same rank feel consistent.
- Affix counts and affix scaling now follow rank. A higher-rank drop should not roll fewer affixes than a lower-rank drop.
- Sam ultimates were rebalanced toward each other. Retro Sam decoys wait one second before exploding so they can actually pull a pack.
- Vending-machine health is unlimited. A multiplayer bug had locked some clients to a single purchase.
- Kleers are tougher to evade. Arachnoid group accuracy was pulled back. Lava Golems are immune to fire and had their overtuned health pass reworked.
Those are shipped-design notes, not a promise of a September patch. If a gun still feels wrong after the Thompson range buff, check the weapon guide and the weapon tier list before you assume the playtest build is what you installed.
What launch reviews are already asking patches to fix
The Steam pile-on in the first 48 hours clustered around netcode and table-stakes options, not around “is this a Sam game.” Recurring complaints:
- Forced open-mic voice and no push-to-talk toggle that reviewers could find.
- Host/client desync and crashes on the peer-to-peer layer. There is still no rejoin for a run in progress.
- Upgrade and Intel text that does not match the buff you received.
- Enemy navigation catching on arena geometry even after the playtest navigation pass.
- Co-op density scaling that turns a fun Serious run into a brick when five players stack, which is why the co-op guide exists.
- NETRICSA still using 2D portraits instead of the 3D enemy display long-time fans wanted.
None of that rewrites the Sam tier list by itself, but it does tell you which systems to watch when Behaviour posts the first numbered patch. If a hotfix only touches Kleer speed, the voice and rejoin threads will stay loud.
How to read this hub going forward
- Start with launch notes for the August 31 snapshot.
- Cross-check weapons, Sams, and bosses after any balance patch using weapons, the Sam roster, and bosses.
- Ignore rumor screenshots. Official word still comes from Steam news, @SeriousSamIAm, and the official Serious Sam series Discord linked from the Steam page.
- If a patch changes recommended settings, the Tools Hub will be the first place we fold that in.
Shatterverse is a released $19.99 game with a one-week launch discount, twenty Steam achievements, and Steam Cloud. It is not a live-service calendar. When a real patch exists, this Updates Hub will point at it. Until then, the playtest-to-launch delta and the Mixed-review watchlist are the entire story, and they live on the launch notes page.
